Mentoring students in research is a key part of my work as a teacher-scholar.

Prospective students

undergraduate

Many students seek to go beyond classroom learning and get involved in producing new knowledge. If you are one of those students, please contact me or schedule an appointment during office hours. I also encourage you to explore the Center for Undergraduate Research where you can find peer advising and scholarship opportunities like the Emerging Scholars and University Scholars Programs.

graduate

As a graduate mentor, my priority is to facilitate junior colleagues’ development as professional researchers. I do not presume that graduate students necessarily share my substantive interests or that their priority is an academic job. Rather, I emphasize the importance of acquiring concrete skills in methods and theory, so that they are prepared to tackle diverse research questions throughout their careers—whether in academia or in practice.

Graduate students working with me have received support from multiple sources, including extramural awards from the National Science Foundation and intramural funding such as the McNair Scholars Program and the Graduate Student Fellowship.

If you are interested in earning a PhD under my supervision, I encourage you to contact me. Please send a statement of research interests, including a description of fit with my research program and resources at the University of Florida.
